THE  BEARABLE HEAVINESS OF NEARLY NOT BEING

Life begins at 40. Then you have a stroke. Oh goodie. But you get over it, life moves on.

Time passes, you smugly celebrate the 10th anniversary of surviving. A week later you have a second stroke. Oh goodie gumdrops!

It’s about Life.  It’s about Death. It’s about change. It’s about getting knocked down, and trying to get up again. It’s about laughing in the face of it all. It’s about an hour.

My 7-year-old daughter came to visit me in hospital. I had all these tubes sticking in and out of me. Cheerfully she said-"Daddy, are you doomed?”

We’re all doomed” I replied, "you just don’t know it yet!”

"Controversial, witty, hip, silly. I laughed so hard it hurt.” BBC

Award winning comedian Markus Birdman returns with his 15th solo show to Edinburgh. Fresh from supporting Jason Manford on tour, including two nights at The Palladium.

Having performed fourteen sell out solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, as well as many at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and NZ Comedy Festival and delighted audiences from China to Mumbai, from Singapore to Sweden (in fairness he died on his backside in Germany), Markus Birdman is delighted to be bringing his new darkly hilarious show to the Edinburgh fringe. He will be supporting his stories with his usual beautiful visual projections.

"Birdman, whose jovially sour tales of his Essex daughter and his two strokes ride high on his own excellence.” Dominic Maxwell, The Times UK

"This thought provoking, soul bearing show is a joy. Such weighty material, handled with the utmost respect. Beautifully captivating, genuinely charming, not to mention hilarious”. **** The Skinny, UK

'Delightfully comic, topical, controversial and personal.' **** List, UK

'Absorbing, intelligent and funny.' **** Metro, UK

'Second to none' **** Adelaide Advertiser
